Why aren't my monitors connecting? Troubleshooting Heart Rate Monitor Connections

You will see one of three messages below if you don't see a live heart rate on your iPad/iPhone screen.

"Link Heart Rate Monitor"
This means a heart rate monitor has not been saved to the person's profile. Choose edit profile and link the heart rate monitor.

"Searching for HRM..."
This message appears before the timer has started. This means that a heart rate monitor has been saved to the person's profile, but the app does not receive a signal from the heart rate monitor.

Triple Dash
This message appears after the timer has started. This means that a heart rate monitor has been saved to the person's profile, but the app does not receive a signal from the heart rate monitor.

Bluetooth Connection Troubleshooting
  1. Confirm the heart rate monitor is turned on and sending a signal.
  2. The battery may be low. Try replacing the battery or charging it.
  3. Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled on your iPad or iPhone. You can view this information in the General Settings of the iPad or iPhone.
  4. Do not connect heart rate monitors through the iPad's General Settings. Only connect them in the OnBeat app.
  5. Confirm the heart rate monitor is within 30 feet of the iPad.
  6. Confirm that the heart rate monitor is not connected to another personal phone or iPad. Doing so will block the connection to OnBeat. The heart rate monitor must be disconnected from other devices and apps. If you find that heart rate monitors are consistently connected to personal phones and need to be disconnected, consider upgrading to the WASP.
  7. If you have saved a heart rate monitor on one iPad but want to use it on another, you must redo the connection in the OnBeat app on the other iPad. Because of the way iOS saves Bluetooth connections, it does not allow transfers across iPads. Monitors saved with the WASP in ANT+ mode transfer cleanly across devices and do not need to be recreated.
  8. If you are saving a loaner that won't display on the proximity screen, confirm that it has not already been saved to a different loaner.

ANT+ Mode (WASP) Connection Troubleshooting

  1. Confirm the heart rate monitor is turned on and sending a signal.
  2. The battery may be low. Try replacing the battery or charging it.
  3. If your business is using the WASP, confirm that the connection mode is set to ANT+ under the main menu and that the WASP is functioning properly. Visit the WASP troubleshooting section of this help site for more information.
  4. Check that your heart rate monitors are saved as ANT+ and not Bluetooth. Choose "edit profile" and check the heart rate monitor section. Depending on how it is saved, it will display Bluetooth or WASP.
  5. The Bluetooth and ANT+ signals are entirely different and not interchangeable. If your gym starts with Bluetooth and upgrades to the WASP, you must redo all the heart rate monitor connections so they save the ANT+ signal.
  6. Confirm the heart rate monitor is within 30 feet of the WASP.
  7. If you are saving a loaner and it won't display on the proximity screen, confirm it has not already been saved to a different loaner.
