Properly wearing chest strap heart rate monitors

Chest heart rate monitors automatically wake once the monitor is placed on the skin. If you are not warmed up, it may take an additional 30 seconds to recognize the heart rate.

  • Confirm the monitor is worn correctly. It should be placed directly on the skin, under bra straps, and near the sternum.
  • Wet the pads on the strap to improve connectivity. You may also want to purchase electrode gel on Amazon. http://a.co/ddP2gi3
  • You can remove the monitor from the strap and rub the metal prongs with your fingers to wake up the monitors. Snap the monitor back onto the strap. The monitor may go back to sleep within 15 seconds if no heart rate is detected. This can even occur if the monitor is worn, but the person is not warmed up.
  • If the monitor is properly connected to a user's profile, the OnBeat app may display a triple dash on the screen. This means the app is connected to the monitor but has not received the heart rate data yet.

More troubleshooting...

  • If the monitor consistently loses connection to the app or the heart rate is consistently inaccurate, the strap may be defective. Place the sensor on a different strap to see if that resolves the problem.
  • Check that the battery has not become too low. Batteries should last at least 80 hours. Replace with a CR2032 coin battery. http://a.co/83ztM9z
